Many donors open a Donor-Advised Fund not only for tax-saving benefits, but to turn their non-cash assets into useable, philanthropic funds. Through your Donor-Advised Fund you are able to directly recommend grants to Salesian Missions.
WHAT IS A DONOR-ADVISED FUND?
Think of a Donor-Advised Fund or “DAF” as a charitable savings account. You receive an immediate tax benefit once you’ve established your DAF and then can make grant recommendations over time to Salesian Missions.
HOW DOES DAF WORK?
You can easily support Salesian Missions by simply advising your DAF administrator to make a distribution in whatever amount you choose. Since donors receive an income tax deduction at the time they contribute to their DAF, there is no additional charitable deduction when making annual or periodic gifts to Salesian Missions through your DAF.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PUT MY DAF DOLLARS TO WORK?
Many individuals are not aware that as part of their estate planning they can also name Salesian Missions as a beneficiary of the remaining funds in their DAF. As different DAFs have their own process and forms for accomplishing this unique bequeathing option, we advise you to ask your DAF administrator for specific instructions.
WHAT INFORMATION DOES MY DAF ADMINISTRATOR NEED?
When making a DAF gift to Salesian Missions, please provide the following information to your administrator:
Salesian Missions, Inc.
2 Lefevre Lane
New Rochelle, NY 10801
Attn: Fr. Mike Conway, S.D.B.
Tax ID# 80-0522035
HOW WILL GRANTS FROM MY DAF BENEFIT SALESIAN MISSIONS?
When you contact your DAF’s administrator and recommend grants be distributed to Salesian Missions, you’ll help:
SUPPORT the work of nearly 30,000 Salesian Priests, Brothers, Sisters and novices working in more than 130 different countries around the world
PROVIDE for the resources needed for victims of brutal wars, devastating natural disasters, drought, famine and systemic poverty
RENEW the hopes and futures of children and youth served in more than 5,500 schools and youth centers, more than 330 orphanages and youth shelters, and more than 150 hospitals and clinics
MAINTAIN life-saving projects including the Salesian Missions Clean Water Initiative which drills wells, builds sanitation facilities, constructs water-collection towers and more

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY DONOR ADVISED FUND IF THERE IS A BALANCE AT THE END OF MY LIFETIME?
Where will the money go? Who will decide how the money is used? Just like the rest of your estate planning, planning for your DAF is an important consideration.
You may be able to name one or more successors to your DAF. You might want to provide a standing recommendation for final grants to one or more charitable organizations to zero out the fund’s balance. You might consider establishing a program of recurring grants much like an endowment. Or, you might transfer your DAF to a “field of interest fund” from which the sponsoring charity can make grants within broad categories.
We would love to have the opportunity to discuss succession planning for your DAF. Please contact:
